Our beloved dainty Forever Kitten

For all of her life, Whisper has been 100% Treat and she knows it – which is, OBVIOUSLY, why she kept sitting in the empty treat bowl at Halloween!

Whisper came to us as a 3 week old kitten, with 3 siblings. The litter had already been taken from their mother very young. Then the litter was struck by Fading Kitten Syndrome and all seemed very dire. It was terrible to lose two of the litter but it was harder on the survivors than on the humans. We were so very happy that two survived – Whisper and her brother, Sparky, a little black ball of energy – but soon realized that each of them had lost the sibling they were most close to.

We got them through those losses and, in time, they began to thrive. Through every dramatic event of their early lives, Whisper and Sparky became deeply attached. Whisper was smaller, weaker, gentler, calmer and needier than Sparky and HE seemed to love being a big brother. It was obvious that they would have to be adopted together.

Adoption applications poured in for Whisper! But no one who applied wanted BOTH of them.

Then two of the most unexpected things happened. There was an application to adopt Sparky. JUST Sparky. And Whisper began to attach to various OTHER cats.

Whisper, clearly a quiet genius, chose herself a MOM and a DAD from our resident cats.

Top pic – Peep, her chosen dad, is an extraordinarily affectionate male Ragdoll-Siamese mix. He loves grooming (which is great cuz he’s a hairy, hairy dude!) and will spend all the time that Whisper’s grooming demands. He taught her all the best ways to find warmth and how to get busy people to drop everything to snuggle with you. She is now an expert at getting under the covers of her chosen human. Just TRY to say no!

Bottom pic – Hermione, her chosen mom, is also a happy groomer of kittens. She is also a bossy lady who will not let any kitten get away with bad behavior, so she quickly became the one Whisper ran to when she was scared.

Neither of those two cats will matter to Whisper’s adopter, but the relationships will. Whisper cannot go to a home as an only. She also won’t thrive in a home with a cat that is aloof.

She NEEDS a companion who will recognize that she really IS a forever kitten and will both play with her and groom her. Of course, she loves grooming others, too. It’s weirdly like a little girl playing house… just with cats instead of people.

Who is Whisper now, after Sparky’s solo adoption? She’s very affectionate and loves to be held. She’s full of energy and has a thing for chasing anything, from laser dots to other young cats. She’s smaller than an average cat her age (1y6m10d as of this writing, DOB 05.08.2024) and is pretty much done growing. She’s gentle, super soft and she might be a goth girl, cuz she’s got mostly black lips.

Adopting her does come with a catch. She’s been with us for a very long time. A shockingly long time, to be honest. She’s way too cute to be left behind this long! But she has been and now… we are terribly attached. I’m afraid that when you adopt her, you’re getting all of us. Not a joke! We’ll want pictures and news and to cat sit for free when you need it… We love her as much as you will.
